| home_assistant_suitability_basis | The Lantronix Modbus Protocol User Guide 900-271 Rev N states in its introduction that it applies to 'Lantronix industrial automation protocol (IAP) device servers, such as the Lantronix XPress DR, XPress DR+, UDS1100-IAP, and xDirect-IAP device servers', and documents two conversion directions explicitly: Modbus/TCP master on the network to Modbus/RTU or Modbus/ASCII slaves on the serial side, and Modbus/RTU or Modbus/ASCII master on the serial side to Modbus/TCP devices on the network. The first of those is exactly the Home Assistant / Node-RED case: a standard Modbus TCP client addressing a serial Modbus RTU slave. This is a protocol-gateway mode, not a transparent tunnel. The guide prints no default Modbus TCP port number; it prints '9600,8,N,1' as the serial configuration standard (p.13). |
